Dr. Wong will serve as a Fulbright Distinguished Professor to the United Kingdom 2024-2025. She will investigate the feasibility of adapting kidney palliative care models in the United Kingdom's National Health Service for implementation within the infrastructure of the United States Department of Veterans affairs

In addition to my role as a COIN Investigator, I am a staff nephrologist and bioethics consultant at VA Puget Sound and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. I lead a research program on treatment practices for patients with advanced kidney disease, including kidney replacement therapy (dialysis and transplantation), conservative management without dialysis and end-of-life care. My work encompasses developing interventions that promote more patient-centered approaches to healthcare delivery that improve care experiences and outcomes for Veterans.

I lead a research program on treatment practices for patients with advanced kidney disease, including kidney replacement therapy, conservative kidney management without dialysis, palliative care, and end-of-life care. My work encompasses developing interventions that promote more patient-centered approaches to healthcare delivery.
I believe deeply in the VA’s mission to put the patient at the center of care practices and policies. It’s an incredible honor to do work that helps to support this mission.
The VA is always seeking better ways of providing care to its Veterans and has been a source of inspiration to other health systems of innovative models of care. My hope is that my research will generate evidence-based models of care for kidney disease that will improve care experiences and outcomes for patients.
