About Us

The Seattle-Denver Center of Innovation (COIN) for Veteran-Centered and Value-Driven Care, funded in Spring 2013 by the VA's Health Systems Research (HSR) office, is a partnership of 65 clinician scientists and PhD methodologists that supports integrating the research mission into VHA healthcare.

Since 2020, our dedicated investigators and trainees have spearheaded 289 projects, from idea generation to spreading best practices across the organization. This impressive track record inspires us to continue our mission as we plan to conduct new projects over the coming years, further enhancing care by addressing three key challenges facing VHA:

  1. Ensure that VHA care meets Veterans' needs by incorporating veteran voices throughout all research phases, including where findings are translated into practice and policy.
  2. Test innovations to deliver value-driven care to improve care for Veterans at the intersection of primary and specialty care and improve organizational efficiency.
  3. Leverage our investigators' nuanced understanding of clinical care and experience with VHA's data and informatics tools to advance rigor in operational decision-making.

COIN uses both VA and non-VA funding to maintain a collaborative and productive environment for investigators, fellows, and staff.
