I am a qualitative methodologist, social scientist, and health systems researcher. I work as a qualitative methodologist at the Denver-Seattle Center of Innovation for Veteran-Centered and Value Driven Care at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, WA.
Over the past decade my work has followed a trajectory examining the effects of policy and programs on members of historically underserved and underrepresented groups, especially Indigenous peoples. This includes developing research designs and integrating novel qualitative methods to best adapt to project needs and elevate the voices of research participants. I continue this work as a member of the COIN’s DEI committee and the Seattle Qualitative Core. More recently, my work with VA has involved subjects including Electronic Health Record Modernization, Health Professions Trainees, and cardiology care.
I approach research as a process done alongside colleagues and with participants as co-researchers. Doing work that has the potential to improve the lives of Veterans is meaningful to me on multiple levels; the research that my colleagues and COIN do improves the health and care experiences of Veterans—including those across this nation, in our communities, and in my own family.
