Health Systems Research Fellowship Programs

COIN participates in the VA Advanced Fellowship Program in VA Health Systems Research. The Fellowship Program works closely with AcademyHealth as a national coordinating center to provide high-quality training and curriculum focused on Learning Health Systems (LHS) core competencies. The two-year Fellowship is designed to transform fellows into independent investigators prepared for future VA and/or University-based research careers. Emphasis is placed on one-on-one mentorship and peer interaction.

Denver Fellowships

The Denver and Seattle Fellowships are an interprofessional post-graduate program. The mission is to develop future VA leaders in health systems research (HSR), dissemination and implementation science, and learning health systems. Our goals are to support trainees to achieve independent research careers through mentorship, career development, and experiential learning. The fellowship curriculum focuses on the LHS core competencies and is supported by AcademyHealth as a national coordinating center.

The Denver fellowship is located at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. It is affiliated with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Denver offers both PhD and MD Fellowships and is led by Sridharan Raghavan, MD, PhD and Heather Gilmartin, PhD, RN.

Denver PhD Fellowship

The PhD Fellowship provides research experiences that will better position the research fellow to impact and improve Veterans health through research and healthcare improvement projects, in addition to activities related to scholarship (e.g., manuscripts, presentations, grants).
